B2006 - Fantastic Large Vintage French Tapestry Wall Hanging, Petit Trianon Jardin Scene

This is a fantastic vintage French tapestry wall hanging dating from the mid 1900's. It is large and impressive and would add a fabulous château chic finishing touch to a room.

It depicts an idyllic romantic 18th Century château garden scene inspired by Marie Antoinette's Petit Trianon in the grounds of the palace of Versailles. 

The garden is very beautiful with a profusion of  flowers, lush vegetation and trees. Within this bucolic scene are two gorgeously dressed young couples. The young men are very attentive. One is plying his lady with grapes while the other adorns his lady's hair with flowers. All the characters are happy and relaxed and the scene is a joy to behold. 

The colours of the tapestry are stunning shades of yellow, orange, coral, pink and blue in the costumes and flowers and subtle green and ochres in the foliage.

Around this glorious scene is sewn floral border. 

The tapestry is of good quality. It is woven in cotton and is in good vintage condition. It has a heavy cotton lining with a pocket at the top to take a rod. There are some cut holes in the pocket (please see photos) but these do not affect the ability of the pocket to hold the rod.

The tapestry measures :- 238 cm (7 ft 9.75 inches) wide x 116 cm (3ft 9.7 inches) high.
