B985 - SOLD

This is an exquisite antique French diorama dating from the Napoleon III era C 1860. It would make a lovely addition to a religious display perhaps grouped on a wall with others.

It features a beautiful carving of  'NOTRE DAME DE GRÂCE' and was possibly bought as a souvenir of a visit to the chapel at Honfleur.

The carving of Our Lady is beautifully executed. She wears a gorgeous cloak which envelops her and the Infant Jesus. They both wear stunning crowns and she carries a bouquet of roses. In the background is a little sailing boat on the sea at Honfleur. At the base of the carving is the inscription.

Surrounding the carving and still within the domed glass is a teal velvet border which has faded to perfection. The frame is made of ebonised wood and has a little distressing.

The diorama has survived the last 160 years in good condition. The fading and distressing just gives character to this wonderful old piece.

It measures :- 21 cm (8.25 inches) high x 18 cm (7 inches) wide.

A lovely old religious diorama to display and enjoy and another divine antique French brocante find from La Belle Étoffe.
