B954 - SOLD

This is a superb antique French Art Nouveau urn dating about 1900. It is signed by the sculptor Auguste Moreau (1834 - 1917) who was famous for such pieces which were usually made in bronze or spelter.

This urn is made from spelter and features all the natural sensual imagery we associate with the Art Nouveau style.

On each side of the urn is a stunning girl surrounded by flowers. They are both as nature intended save for a filmy gauze billowing around their legs. One of the girls has her hair upswept and she reaches forwards to touch a flower. The other has her long hair flowing down her back and she leans backwards to touch a flower.

The urn stands on a marble base. The spelter has a rich gun metal grey finish.

The urn is in excellent condition. There is just one scratch above the artist's signature.

It measures :- 26.5 cm (10.5 inches) high. The marble base is 7.5 cm (3 inches) square.

A gorgeous Art Nouveau urn perhaps to add to a collection and another divine antique French find from La Belle Étoffe!
