B890 - SOLD

This stunning antique French tapestry wall hanging dating from the late 1800's, early 1900's, would add a fabulous authentic château grandeur finishing touch to a room.

It depicts a beautiful country scene full of drama and detail. In the foreground a hunting dog flushes out a game cock. Behind them ducks, disturbed by the action, take to the air from a serene lake. The ruins of a long forgotten château stand outlined in the background.

The foreground is full of lush vegetation and to the left of the scene is a stunning chestnut tree. The detail is amazing, see the branch of misletoe hanging from it's boughs.

The colours too are sublime. The palette is dominated by subtle tones of greens and neutrels against which the rust red of the cock bird contrasts perfectly.

The tapestry is of excellent quality. The coat of the dog demonstrates it's fine weave and texture.

The wall hanging is beautifully lined with a gorgeous emerald green textile under which is an interlining. This gives the tapestry the weight to hang perfectly.

The wall hanging is in excellent antique condition. There is a small dark line in the top left hand corner (see pics) and there are one or two minor rust marks which blend into the scene. The lining is clean with a couple of water marks.

The wall hanging measures :- 162 cm (5 ft 3.75 inches) high x 122 cm (4 ft) wide.

A stunning tapestry to add an authentic château chic statement to a room and another divine antique French textile find from La Belle Étoffe.
