This is a spectacular pair of antique French tapestry château curtains dating from the late 1800's / early 1900's. They are a feast for the eyes and would add an authentic touch of grandeur to a room.

One of the curtains is a little longer than the other but it is so rare to find two such matching tapestry curtains we have put them together as a pair. It would be very straightforward to shorten the longer curtain.

The tapestry is woven in linen and is very crisp and fresh. The design and colours are fabulous. Each curtain has a gorgeous fruit and flower border. The central panel is dominated by a magnificent tree beneath which two mythical birds (one a griffin) spar. In the background beautiful countryside can be seen.

The colours are a fabulous palette of greens, browns and neutrals and would sit well in both a country or town house interior.

The curtains are lined and as well as looking divine they would be ideal for keeping the draughts out.

The curtains are in excellent antique condition. I can find just one area of minor wear to the tapestry on the right hand side of the longer curtain. This blends into the design and does not draw the eye.

The linings have darkened with the sun and the passage of time. They are intact except for one small right angled tear in the lining of the longer curtain, and 2 tiny right angled pulls in the lining of the shorter curtain (see pics).

We used spring clips & rings (not included) to hang the curtains but a header tape could be sewn on if required.

The shorter curtain measures:- 248 cm (8 ft 1.5 inches) long x 120 cm (3 feet 11 inches) wide
The longer curtain measures:- 284 cm (9 feet 4 inches) long x 120 cm (3 feet 11 inches) wide.

This is a fabulous pair of antique French curtains to add an authentic château chic statement to the grandest of homes.

N.B. We also have another single portiere in this design listed in our other items. It came from the same château as these but the colours have a more tawny hue.
