This is a stunning antique French gilded church cross / crucifix dating from the 1800's. It would have stood on the church altar but would now make a stylish architectural addition to a château chic interior.

The cross stands on a decorative triangular base with scrolled feet and acanthus leaf corners.  Each of the sides of the base is intricately decorated with a religious image, including the Madonna and the flaming sacred heart.

The column of the cross is of the classic Empire style. The cross itself has decorative work to the tips. The figure of Christ is finely detailed and above him is the scroll with the letters INRI.

The cross is sturdy and in good condition. The gilding has mellowed over the years, particularly on the column where it has been handled. This is just as it should be and looks superb.

The cross measures :- 63 cm (24.75 inches) high x 23.5 cm (9.25 inches) wide x 12.5 cm (5 inches) along the side of the base.

Whether placed on a simple country buffet or a grand enfilade this gorgeous altar cross will look stunning.
