B784 - SOLD

This is an exquisite antique French hand made lace and linen tablecloth dating from the 1800's. It could have been made for a bride's trousseau.

It is over 3 metres long and would also make a fabulous curtain or portiere.

The lacework and linen are of the highest quality. The linen is fine and crisp and snowy white. It is extensively worked with broderie anglais in a flower and tendril design.

To the top and bottom of the cloth is hand made scalloped lace in drawn threadwork. Further panels of exquisitely worked lace adorn the perimeter and centre of the cloth.

Despite it's delicate appearance the piece has good weight and drapes beautifully.

The tablecloth is clean and fresh. It has survived the years in fantastic condition. There are one or two places where the lace has pulled a little (see pics) but one has to search to find it.

The cloth measures :- 303 cm (10 ft) long x 134 cm (4 ft 5 inches) wide. We have photographed it on a 2 metre long French farmhouse table and it fits perfectly.

A divine antique French linen and lace textile to add a très jolie touch to a table or a window and another fabulous antique French brocante find from La Belle Étoffe.
