This is the most exquisite antique French wall hanging dating from around 1900. It is hand painted on velvet in the Art Nouveau style. The colours are stunning and it is a very atmospheric piece.

The subject of the painting is the most gorgeous woman sitting on the banks of an aquamarine lily pond. She is swathed in a pink gown which falls into the water. She wears two pink lilies in her lustrous strawberry pink hair. Her face is divine - she has huge turquoise blue eyes and red rosebud lips.

The setting is idyllic. Behind the woman lush vegetation and a palm tree grow. The aquamarine pond is full of floating lilies.

The woman wears a stunning chatelaine which hangs over her shoulder. It has two fabulous cabachon stones, one of them facetted, in a gorgeous shade of emerald green. If you look very closely you can see that once upon a time the chatelaine had more of these glass stones but they have sadly fallen off over the years. This does not detract at all from the beauty of the unique piece but the perfectionist may find it fun to source some replacement stones.

The artist has signed the wall hanging in gilt paint in the bottom right hand corner. The hanging is mounted on two gilded battens with an Art Nouveau design. There is a cord threaded through loops to hang it on a wall.

The wall hanging has timeworn a little over the years but this only adds to it's unique charm.

It measures :- 102 cm (40 inches) high x 51 cm (20 inches) wide.
