This is a divine antique French ciel de lit / bed couronne or bed canopy in the Empire style and dating from the late 1800's, early 1900's.

It would have been hung above a bed to create a decorative centre piece from which to hang drapes.

It has an almost circular wood frame. To the front of the frame is a gorgeous ormolu laurel leaf crest with trailing laurel leaf garlands. To each side of this are two ormolu faux ribbon ties. The laurel leaves and ribbon ties are cast in exquisite detail and the gilding has a fabulous antique hue. The wood frame has it's original varnish which has distressed a little with the passage of time.

The ciel de lit is sturdy and  measures :- W 59.5 cm (23.5 inches) x D 53.5 cm (21 inches) x H 7 cm (2.75 inches).

This is a divine bed canopy to add an authentic château chic finishing touch to a boudoir and another fabulous antique French find from La Belle Étoffe!
