B659 - Superb Pair Antique French Ormolu Curtain Tie / Hold backs

This is a superb pair of antique French ormolu curtain tie / hold backs in the Empire style and dating from about 1880.

They are of fabulous quality with good weight and excellent detail and definition to the casting of the metal.

The back plate is very decorative. There is a laurel leaf wreath held with a bow and ribbon. The hook has an acanthus leaf scroll and ends with a fabulous pineapple finial.

The gilding on the ormolu has mellowed over the years to a lovely old gold hue.

The tie backs have a strap on the reverse of the back plate and can be fixed by hanging them on a hook. There is also a screw hole at the top of the laurel leaf crest.

They measure :- H 18 cm (7 inches) x W 4.5 cm (1.75 inches) x D 11 cm (4.25 inches).
