This is a divine antique French ciel de lit / bed couronne or bed canopy dating from about 1880.

It would have been hung above a bed to create a decorative centre piece from which to hang drapes.

It has a decorative tubular semi circular brass frame to which are attached the most gorgeous ormolu flower garland swags. The swags are arranged into 4 loops each caught up with a sublime bow with ribbon tails and a trailing flower tendril. The flowers and bows are cast in exquisite detail and the gilding has a fabulous antique hue.

The tubular frame has a wall plate to either end decorated with faux ribbon ties. It is attached to a sturdy inner frame made of wood. The drapes would have been attached to the front of the wooden frame and there is still some of the original calico attached.

On the back of the wooden frame are two sturdy brackets for attaching the couronne to the wall.

It measures :- W 91 cm (36 inches) x D 52 cm (20.5 inches) x H 18 cm (7 inches).

This is a divine bed canopy to add an authentic château chic finishing touch to a boudoir and another fabulous antique French find from La Belle Étoffe!
