B343 - SOLD

This is a charming antique French wooden posting box dating from the 1800's.

It came from the famous PARIS publisher 'Levy Frèrés' founded in 1836 and located at 66, Rue Turbigo. It was sent to a Monsieur Billard, the proprietor of a book shop in Beaune, Côte d'Or and would have contained a special order book for one of his customers.

The lid is hinged to the box with 2 wire loops and there is a tiny wire loop and staple to secure it closed.

The original address label is still attached to the box and is beautifully hand written in copper plate.

Prior to posting, the box would have been tied with twine which would have been sealed with wax.

The box measures :- 18 cm (7 inches) wide x 12 cm (4.5 inches) deep x 7.5 cm (3 inches) high.

This charming antique posting box would be an interesting and decorative addition to any vintage display and would be divine for keepsakes.
