This is a divine antique French ciel de lit / bed couronne or bed canopy dating from the 1800's.

It would have been hung above a bed to create a decorative centre piece from which to hang drapes.

It is made from brass and is semi circular in shape.

The flat side fits to the wall and the curved side forms the decorative fascia.

The brass is pierced with a beautiful design and three regal embellishments complete the ensemble.

The top of the couronne has it's original satin, now a gorgeous shade of tea rose and rather timeworn.

Underneath is the same satin and there are hooks to hold the curtains and a brass bar to secure a pelmet.

There are 2 holes on the back of the couronne for attaching to the wall. It is in good condition and sturdy.
