B1770 - SOLD

This is a gorgeous antique French carved wood mount / pediment dating from the early 1800's. It is very architectural and would look superb on a wall or would be perfect as a central point from which to hang drapes, perhaps over a bed as a ciel de lit.

The pediment is in the 'baroque' style and has a central crest from which acanthus leaves cascade to either side. Two scrolls with a central acanthus leaf flourish complete this beautiful design.

The pediment is fabulously water gilded on gesso. The water gilding is generously  applied and provides superb glossy golden highlights against the matt gilding of the acanthus leaves.

The gilding has distressed a little on the end of the right hand arm (please see photos) but this does not detract in any way.

The pediment measures:- 41 cm (16.25 inches) wide x 12.5 cm (5 inches) high.
