This is a superb antique French religious diorama dating from the Napoleon III era C1860. It would make a lovely addition to a religious display perhaps grouped on a wall with others.

The diorama has a black oval ebonised wood frame and domed glass. Within this is an exquisite limestone carving of St. Joseph and the infant Jesus. Joseph hold Jesus in his left arm. His right hand holds a beautiful fleur de lys which rests on his shoulder. The scene is carved in amazing detail - see the folds of their robes and the fingers and toes of Jesus. The luminous limestone looks superb against the black frame.

The diorama is in very good antique condition. The glass is clear. There is a loop on the back for hanging.

It measures :- 22 cm (8.75 inches) high x 19 cm (7.5 inches) wide.
