B1362 - Sensational Large Vintage French Tapestry Wall Hanging, 18th Century Society Scene
This is a sensational large vintage French tapestry wall hanging dating from the mid 1900's. The design is of an 18th Century aristocratic society soirée and is based on a painting by the Spanish painter Vicente Garcia De Paredes (1845 - 1903). It truly would add a château chic finishing touch to a room.
The colours and attention to detail are quite exceptional.
The scene is set in a fabulously appointed salon where the architectural details are absolutely stunning. There is a huge bag chandelier. Gorgeous trumeau mirrors with romantic paintings hang to either side of a magnificent fireplace. The floor has beautiful Aubusson carpets. The furniture is ornately carved and stands on curved legs with escargot feet.
The gathered people are all beautifully dressed in 18th Century costume. The ladies wear gorgeous full skirted gowns and the bewigged gentlemen have frills at their cuffs and buckles on their shoes.
They are gathered together to play and listen to music. A harpsicord, harp, cello and violins are being played. Everyone seems to be having a lovely time and the scene is delightful.
The tapestry is woven in wool and linen. The colours are amazing strong pastel shades of pink, lilac, turquoise, blue and green.
The tapestry is in good vintage condition. There is just one small mark on the dress of the lady on the left hand side as one looks at the tapestry (please see photos), but in our opinion this blends into the design and does not draw the eye.
The tapestry measures :- 210 cm (6 ft 10.75 inches) wide x 131 cm (4 ft 3.5 inches ) high.
A gorgeous wall hanging tapestry to add an authentic château chic statement and another divine antique French textile find from La Belle Étoffe.
N.B. We have used clips to display the tapestry & these are not included.
