B1361 - SOLDThis is an amazing wide vintage French tapestry wall hanging of an 18th Century village scene. It is incredibly detailed and would certainly hold the eye when hung on a wall. The scene is set in the part of the village where the roofs are thatched. The roofs and spires of the grander houses and the church can be seen beyond. There is a party in full swing and everyone seems to be enjoying themselves, even a visit from the gentry doesn't seem to be dampening the fun. There is music and dancing and of course, judging by the state of some of the revellers, plenty of drinking! The scene is incredibly detailed - see the pots, flagons & little spinning wheel in the foreground. The characters are wearing brightly coloured clothes which look superb against the brown and green background Around this glorious scene is sewn a gorgeous border. The border has a scrolled acanthus leaf design and sets the tapestry off to perfection. The tapestry is in excellent vintage condition. On the back of the top edge are sewn loops for hanging purposes. The tapestry measures :- 223 cm (7 ft 3.75 inches) wide x 100 cm (3 ft 3.25 inches) high. A fantastic vintage tapestry to add an authentic French finishing touch to a room and another divine brocante find from La Belle Étoffe. N.B. The clips from which we have hung the tapestry are not included. Please hover cursor over picture for magnified detail and click on picture for enlarged photo. SOLD
