B1286 - Amazing Antique French 'Jewelled' & Gilded Hand Mirror, Bevelled Glass, 19th C
This is a beautiful 'jewelled' & gilded antique French hand mirror dating from the 19th Century. It looks like it once belonged in a church as it's design is distinctly ecclesiastical. It would now make a stunning accessory in a château chic boudoir.
The bevelled mirror plate is rhomboid in shape and is held in a gilded brass frame with a delicate flower and leaf design. There is a beautiful acanthus leaf and fleur de lys crest and to the corners are filigree cups each containing a red paste cabachon stone. Around the perimeter of the frame and on the handle are more paste cabochon stones in red and turquoise - gorgeous!
On the bottom of the handle is a loop for hanging. The mirror plate has a cardboard back now beautifully patinated by the passage of time.
The mirror measures :- 28.5 cm (11.25 inches) long x 15.5 cm (6 inches) wide.
A gorgeous mirror to use and enjoy and another divine antique French brocante find from La Belle Étoffe!
