B1269 - SOLD

This is an impressive vintage French woven linen wall hanging dating from the mid 20th Century. It is printed with a medieval design inspired by the 16th Century tapestries in the Cluny Museum in Paris.  This wallhanging certainly encapsulates the essence of the originals and would look superb whether hung in a country house home or a hyper modern apartment.

It is of wonderful quality. The textile is a heavy textured woven linen which hangs beautifully. The scene is printed onto the linen by a silkscreen process. The colours and detail are amazing!

The scene is dominated by a noble lady playing a piped organ. She is attired in a fabulous gown in stunning shades of pink, red and teal. She is accompanied by a nobleman, probably her beau, who is singing from a sheet. He too is magnificently attired. They have with them 3 of their attendants who are relaxed and happy playing with their animals or joining in the entertainment.

All around the characters is an abundance of millefleurs punctuated here and there with a little animal or bird. Utterly charming!

The background colour has a deep petrol hue against which the reds, teals and pinks look stunning.

The wall hanging is lined and has rings sewn on the back for hanging purposes. It in excellent vintage condition.

It measures :- 164 cm (5 ft 4.5 inches) wide x 129 cm (4 ft 2.75 inches) high.

A fantastic vintage wall hanging to add an authentic château chic statement to a room. It is from a carefully selected collection of antique & vintage textiles & decorative pieces at 'La Belle Étoffe'.

N.B. The clips from which we have hung the wall-hanging are not included.
