This is a beautiful antique French château pelmet dating from the 19th C. It would be divine over a window or a door and could perhaps be used over a bed.

It is made from a gorgeous sumptuous velvet in a soft forest green and is embellished with exquisite appliqué and chainstitch work.

In the centre of the top of the design is a basket filled with delicious pink roses. The basket is hanging from a curl in the decorative border that frames the design. From each side of the basket delicate tendrils of leaves entwine themselves around the border & then fall away to catch two more of the pink roses in a swag. The swag continues upwards to be caught in the corner of the frame and then tumbles downwards in delicate wisps. The effect is breathtaking!

The appliqué & chainstitch work is beautifully executed. The pale pink of the roses and the pale lilac, yellow & greens of the flowers look superb against the green velvet background.

The bottom of the pelmet is shaped and has a gorgeous passementerie trim. The pelmet is lined. The textile of the lining has 3 watermarks but is sound.

The pelmet is in good antique condition. There are one or two marks and a tiny bit of wear here and there (please see photos) but absolutely nothing to draw the eye.

The pelmet measures :- W 220 cm (7 ft 2.5 inches) x H 120 cm (3 ft 11.25 inches) at the sides, 56 cm (22 inches) in the middle. The aperture has a max width of 92 cm (3 ft).
