B1068 - SOLD

This is a superb antique French needlepoint tapestry. It is of a 17th Century scene but was almost certainly worked in the 19th Century. It is finely worked in wool and is full of detail.

The scene is of a rather splendid gentleman calling on a young lady, who, judging by the colour of her cheeks is rather pleased to see him! The gentleman is knocking on the door as the maiden looks out of the window. He looks like he may have travelled as he carries a pack on his back. A money bag and walking stick hang around his waist.

The detail is amazing - see the carving on the door and the delightful potted plant.

The colours are very atmospheric browns and beiges against which the red and blue of the sumptuous costumes contrasts perfectly.

The needlepoint is mounted on card and will stand on it's own or could be framed.

It measures :- 32.5 cm (12.75 inches) wide x 33 cm (13 inches) high.

An atmospheric needlepoint tapestry to add an authentic antique French finishing touch to a room and another divine brocante find from La Belle Étoffe.
