This is a superb antique French foot warmer dating from the 1800's. Filled with tea lights it would now also make a gorgeous centre piece for a rustic table and could be used as a food warmer.
It is made of cast iron and in the 19th Century it would have been filled with hot coals. The feet would have been placed on the flat perforated lid and the heat would have been a blessing on a cold winter's day. The warmer has a carrying handle so it could have been used at home, perhaps while sitting in front of the fire, or it could have been taken outside to perhaps use while sitting in a cold horse drawn carriage.
The warmer is a very decorative piece full of shabby chic charm. The base and lid have their original enamel in a sublime shade of turquoise and this has patinated over the years to timeworn perfection.
It sits on a sturdy base and the wire and wood carrying handle is good and strong.
It measures :- 22.5 cm (9 inches) wide x 9 cm (3.5 inches) high x 14 cm (5.5 inches) deep.
Another superb antique French find from La Belle Étoffe!
