B1011 - SOLD

This is a gorgeous antique French carved wood gilded plinth dating from the 19th Century. It is extremely decorative and could possibly originally have come from a church.

It features a magnificent eagle standing on a column. It has it's glorious wings outstretched and it's head supports the plinth shelf.

The eagle has a spendid hooked beak and talloned feet. The feathers of it's plumage are full and plumptious. The carving has been beautifully executed to give us a stunning three dimensional architectural piece.

The gilding is absolutely fabulous. It has a red fontenay base which enhances the glorious antique patination.

To either side of the underside of the shelf  is carved tassel detail. Over the years the tassel to the right hand side as one looks at it, has been chipped off. There is also one small chip to the tassel at the base of the column upon which the eagle stands. This is just part of the history of this wonderfully decorative piece and does not detract from it's beauty.

The plinth is just the right size and weight to take a single church candle. It has two loops for hanging on a wall but would probably benefit from further support.

It measures 26.5 cm (10.5 inches) high x 21.5 cm (8.5 inches) wide x 12 cm (4.75 inches) deep at the top.

A gorgeous architectural plinth to add an authentic château chic finishing touch and another divine antique French find from La Belle Étoffe.
