Tap water is a satisfactory medium for the housing and breeding of pond fish providing that you bear several points in mind. Our domestic tap water contains a disinfectant, this is generally chlorine, and there is also the PH factor, the acidity or alkalinity of the water.
A final point about water whether from the tap or from rainfall, is that it becomes polluted in time and some form of treatment may be necessary. Fish waste and dead organisms lead to undesirable changes in the water chemistry and occasionally you may have to do something about it.
