Additional information The reality is indeed astonishing, for on stage in one of the best-known operas in the repertoire Magda Olivero is regarded as one of the great operatic performers of the twentieth century. Olivero?s debut at the Metropolitan Opera took place to a packed house on 3rd April 1975. At the end of the third act, her leap over the parapet brought gasps from the audience, witch ended with curtain calls lasting half an hour (the longest ovation in the history of the theatre).
