Additional information The release of this recording celebrates Martha Mödl who, for a relatively brief period of around ten years, became one of the great Isoldes of the mid-twentieth century. Mödl was partnered by the heldentenor Ramón Vinay. His most successful role was Otello. Over a period of twenty years he performed the role more than two hundred and fifty times. From the early 1950s Vinay specialised in heldentenor roles, particularly by Wagner, he was noted for his performances of Parsifal, Siegmund, Tannhäuser and Tristan.
